- Research the area before you go
- Know the terrain. Know the weather and climate. Ensure you pack for the temperature. Most importantly, know the surrounding towns as you will be crossing through them on your exploration!
- Pack the Essentials
- A beginner’s mistake is packing the things you do not need. Rule of thumb: if you do not use it everyday then it most likely is a luxury.
- Invest in quality gear
- You don’t want to be in a scenario where your gear fails you on the trail. Expensive gear is pricy but guaranteed to last you a multitude of seasons. And they also keep hikers’ comfort in mind in terms of function and size.
- Don’t forget to look up!
- As your struggling up a mountain it’s easy to forget to look up and enjoy your scenery. But don’t just celebrate when you hit a peak, enjoy the journey and hard work you put in to get you to your destination.
